Jack Grealish has signed a new contract at Aston Villa – and it’s got rival fans talking about his decision to stay faithful to his boyhood club.

In a perhaps surprise move, Villa announced on Twitter yesterday that Grealish will stay at the club until 2025, which clearly delighted those in Claret & Blue.

There was a section of rival fans who praised Villa for the deal and lauded Grealish for staying with his boyhood club.

It was pointed out by opposition fans that loyalty has gone out of the window in football, but Grealish is proving that it still exists.

Even though Villa only survived relegation to the Championship during the final few minutes of the recent Premier League campaign, their star man was outstanding and deserved more rewards for his showing.

Only a certain Kevin de Bruyne created more chances than the swashbuckling Solihull lad, who drew the most fouls last season also.

From Villa’s perspective, it’s now about matching Grealish’s talents with players who can help the recently-capped England star carry this Midlands giant back to fighting for European places.

Their decision to break their club-record transfer on 26 goal Championship man Ollie Watkins is perhaps an indicator that those in the suits are serious about getting the club back to the top.

Only time will tell on whether that will happen or not, as a selection of rival fans offered their thoughts on Grealish committing his future to the club he joined at the age of 6:

Not a fan of his, but it’s good to see homegrown players wanting to stay at their clubs, not jumping ship at the first opportunity. Not enough Matt Le Tissiers out there.

What a deal that is for Villa. Even if it means keeping him for only one more year. Fair play

Fair play to Jack. Loyal as they come and understands he’s a big fish at villa. A move to any of the top 4 and he just becomes another over valued English player

No Ambition?

He has already realised his ambition by playing for his favourite club

He may not have any ambition to play for another club

Villa are massive and if he plays well then he will get his rewards…like Vardy,Ings etc at so called smaller clubs.
